London Calling for chivarlyideal

 The next week passed quickly, but the trip to London was always in the back of Merlin's mind.  He would be meeting Arthur's father for the first time in this millennium, but Merlin suspected the king would dislike him as much now as he had back in Camelot.  Especially if he suspected that Merlin and Arthur were anything more than friends.  However, worries aside, Merlin had packed (and re-packed to add a few certain things in a small bag buried in the bottom of his suitcase) making sure he had anything he might possibly need for the weekend. 

The morning of their departure, Merlin had fretted and paced as he waited for Arthur's text to alert him that the car was there to pick him up on the road.  He checked the magical wards that protected his cottage as he left, walking quickly to the main road and climbing into the back after the driver had stowed his bag.

"You're not special because you're the prince," Merlin whispers. His hips roll up against Arthur's unhurriedly, wanting this connection, the slow build of desire rather than the rush to get off.

"No? What makes me so special then if not being the future king?" Arthur is happy with their current pace and he takes his time to kiss his way down Merlin's neck, over his collarbone and shoulders.

"Once and future," Merlin's words are barely a whisper beneath the warmth of Arthur's lips. His fingers rub lightly over the prince's neck, massaging slowly as in response to Arthur's attentions to his sensitive neck.

"Again with the Arthurian legends, huh?" Arthur nuzzles his cheek against Merlin's shoulder.

If only you knew, Merlin thought to himself.

"There has never been a King Arthur, other than the one of legend," he murmurs, smiling fondly at his lover. "But that is not what makes you special either."

"And what is it that makes me special?" Arthur curiously looks up at Merlin again.

"This," Merlin kisses him softly. "Being with me like this, loving me, this is what makes you special."

Even though it's a little cheesy, Arthur can't help but smile against Merlin's skin. "I see."

Merlin is fully aware of how soppy he is being, but he doesn't care much. Instead he smiles happily and kisses Arthur.

Arthur is just about to kiss Merlin back when somebody calls his name and then there's a knock on the door. "Shit!" He hisses, untangling himself from Merlin and frantically grabbing his clothes. The person outside informs him through the closed door that Uther wishes to see Arthur immediately.

Merlin throws an arm across his face to muffle his groan. "You smell like sex," he murmurs as Arthur dresses quickly. "And your hair is a mess."

"Very helpful, thank you." Arthur hisses, glaring at Merlin while trying to put on his jeans again. Once he's fully dressed again, Arthur storms into his ensuit bathroom, fixing his hair and putting on some after shave.

"I try to be," Merlin answers cheekily, but truthfully he doesn't it want to be so blatantly obvious to Arthur's father what they had just been up to. He does, however, follow Arthur into the bathroom to help fix his hair in the back. "I'm sure that whatever he wants will be quick and you'll be back in here in no time."

"Let's hope so." Arthur turns around, smoothing down his shirt. "Don't go anywhere." Taking Merlin's face in between his hands, Arthur kisses him gently before walking out of the bathroom, unlocking the door and slipping into the hallway outside.

"I won't," Merlin returns his kiss with a soft smile and watches him go. With the door to the hallway closed, Merlin returns to sprawl out across the bed.

Merlin's predictions were wrong. It takes Arthur the better part of an hour to return and when he does, he looks worried. "Hey. Sorry it took so long." He closes and locks the door behind himself again and sits down on the edge of the bed.

Merlin moves to kneel behind him on the bed, rubbing his shoulders gently to ease some of the worry and tension. "What happened?"

Arthur sighs, leaning into Merlin's touch. "Good news: I'm going to stay here tonight. Bad news: Apparently, there's something pretty bad going on but my father refused to tell me anything. I have no idea what it is but it sounded like someone out there is planning to eradicate the entire royal family."

I think I just read a fic like this... except Arthur was a girl. lol

Merlin wraps his arms around Arthur's shoulders and hugs him tightly. "Why wouldn't he tell you the whole situation? That sounds like a really good way for something bad to happen because you are unaware of the problem."

"Because that's what he always does. I guess he doesn't want me to worry too much." Which is ridiculous, Arthur thinks. He has a right to know if somebody's out to kill him.

"I would think it would just make you worry more," Merlin kisses his cheek softly, his need to be protective of his prince already kicking into gear. "It just means we'll need to be careful any time you're out."

Arthur turns around to face Merlin. "If they ever let me out again. I'm under lock-up for now."

Merlin frowns. "How strict is lock-up? Like you have to stay here?"

"Exactly like that, yes." Arthur groans, dropping his forehead against Merlin's shoulder.

"No," Merlin replies with a groan of his own. "That's such a terrible idea."
